- Pioneer in Spain in the endovascular treatment (embolizations) of vascular malformations (Aneurysms, AVM-angiomas, Fistulas, Vascularized Tumors), cerebral, facial and spinal, starting in 1991.
- Initiator, together with Dr Mayol (radiologist) and Dr Gil Peralta (neurologist), of the multidisciplinary team in the study and treatment of cerebral vascular processes, supra-aortic trunks, facial and spinal cord of adults and children, at the Virgen del Rocío Hospital, in 1991.
- He participated in the first international working group organized by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the University of Los Angeles (UCLA, USA) with the purpose of using the new endovascular treatment system of coils (platinum coils) for the occlusion of intracranial aneurysms (embolization) worldwide. The Spanish group was formed by physicians Jesús Muñoz (Hospital La Paz, Madrid), Luis Nombela (Hospital Puerta de Hierro, Madrid), and Dr. Durand (Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío, Sevilla). This system was accepted by the National Health Institute (NHI) of the United States in 1991 for its development and application worldwide.
- He trained radiologists in the endovascular treatment of cerebral and medullary vascular processes at the Reina Sofia Hospital in Cordoba, the Carlos Haya Hospital in Malaga, and the Puerta del Mar Hospital in Cadiz.
- He has been President of the XIX Congress of the Ibero-Latin American Society of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (SILAN), Seville (2007).
- He has worked as a specialist spine consultant for professional athletes for more than twenty years.
